Our new kind of LED lighting technology is much better than the traditional one. The grow room is simpler and stays cooler, energy is being saved, and most importantly, the quality of plants (flowers, vegetables, fruits) may become much better. While the light of the HPS lamps is stronger than that of the LED lamps, the former have the disadvantage to produce mostly waste. Namely, the light emitted by them covers the full spectrum of visible light, which does not correspond to the full range needed by photosynthesis. In this way most of the light emitted by the HPS lamps gets wasted, because the plants during their growth are unable to use all the light produced by them.
The light of the LED lamps is weaker than that of the HPS lamps, while the light of the LED lamps get fully used by the plants, because their light exactly corresponds to the range needed by photosynthesis. The loss is minimal, or zero. In addition to that, – contrary to the traditional lamps – some of our LED lamps emits light that is invisible to the human eye (UV and IR). This kind of light is very useful for the plants.
Most growers using HPS lamps can produce 0.5 grams of product per watt. In contrast, a grower using LED lamps can produce 1-1.5 grams of product using the same amount of energy, that is, the yield may increase threefold in an ideal case.
The useful life of HPS lamps is roughly 8-10,000 hours, while the useful life of LED lamps may be as high as 50-100,000 hours.
The HPS lamps can only be placed above the plants, which seriously limit the growers’ choices. In contrast, LED lamps can cover the entire area, as due to their cold light, they can also be placed on the sides.
